Many people are reluctant to visit a dentist. Yet, if we arrange a check-up every six months, our visits would be less traumatic. It we don’t take care of our teeth and general dental hygiene, there are several problems that can occur. Let’s take a look at some of these preventative measures, with some suggestions on how to avert these problems. However, Queensland residents should never neglect regular visits to a Dentist Brisbane. Dentists and oral hygienists usually recommend that we should brush our teeth at least twice daily and, ideally, we should brush them after we have eaten something that is sweet or starchy. Brushing teeth after eating sugar seems to be a reasonable suggestion but why after starch? After we eat starch, our teeth secrete an acid that breaks up the teeth’s enamel. This results in bacteria lurking in any spaces that they can find between our teeth. These spaces are usually difficult to access with a toothbrush and if left unattended, will result in dental cavities. This means that a cavity has appeared and the first sign that something is wrong is when we get a dreaded toothache. A visit to the dentist will result in having the cavity filled if not too serious. Otherwise, a crown or root canal might be necessary. Halitosis, or bad breath as it is commonly known, is a problem that affects not only people who suffer from this, but also those who come into close contact with them. Bad breath is caused when bacteria forms in our mouths and if not given attention, results in breath that is foul, to put it frankly. A post nasal drip might also be the cause of bad breath because bacteria form on the mucus. A dry mouth that happens while sleeping can also bring on the problem. General bad breath can be avoided if we scrape out tongues every morning. Special spatulas are designed for this; however, brushing our tongues with a toothbrush can also be effective in getting rid of this problem. Gum disease is a more serious condition. Some symptoms of gingivitis, as it is medically known, are bleeding gums when we brush our teeth. The gums can become swollen, very red and tender. If this infection is left untreated, a more serious disease, known as periodontitis, occurs. This happens when gums become inflamed or if infection goes untreated. An early visit to a dentist would have prevented this serious state of affairs. Yellow teeth can be a source of embarrassment, which also results in a lack of self-confidence. As a result, some people never want to smile nor do they ever show their teeth in photographs. Discoloured teeth are often caused from drinking too much coffee and red wine. However, as people age, their teeth also may become stained. An appointment with a Tooth Whitening Brisbane dental practitioner can solve this problem. Trained professionals will advise regarding the best procedure that could be administered in relation to individual needs. These are a few of the main reasons why a regular visit to a dentist is important. Nevertheless, if you practice good dental habits and teach them to children from an early age, many of these problems can be avoided. http://www.rochedaledental.com.au |
